Further to a recent notification by the IE Domain Registry and a number of calls from our customers, we would like to bring to your attention that a company operating under the name of “Internet Register Ireland” are in the process of contacting businesses, soliciting them to register their domain names.

The IE Domain Registry have informed us that no such organisation has been authorised to act on their behalf.

If you are uncertain about who your domain name is registered with, what its expiration date is or any such details about the renewal of your domain name, please contact us to discuss.

*Spoofed Email Addresses…

As spam traffic levels continue to increase, so too do the tactics used by spammers.
Recent support tickets show a growing concern among email users about the “from” addresses used by spammers to generate junk mail.

Spammers use a technique of sending out Spam emails from random email addresses some of which are often legitimate business email addresses that have simply been spoofed.

If you find that you receive a spam message from a collegue, a supplier you deal with or any known organisation, be aware that it more than likely has a spoofed “from” email address and that it was not legitimately sent to you.

In some situations, you may even receive a spam mail which has a spoofed “from” address which is your own email address!!

SPAM LEVELS CONTINUE TO SURGE

Latest Statistics show that Spam Levels now account for more than 85% of all email traffic in July, according to figures released by Elive Ltd anti-spam and hosting providers.

Recent studies now show that Spammers have swiftly diverted
to using PDF (Portable Document Format) attachments to clog up individuals email accounts, as opposed to using common image file types such a Gifs.

“We have seen changes again in spam tactics in a drive to circumvent anti-spam systems”, commented Sean Ryan, MD of Elive Ltd.
“These changes also mean that the size of an average spam email has now increased by up to 80%, leading to greater traffic levels and also affecting client bandwidth allocations”.

The most prevalent strain of Spam using PDF attachments at present are the “Pump and Dump” stock scams. These type of Spam messages attempt to lure email users into purchasing low cost “penny” stock and shares, thereby to artificially raise the value of these shares which these scammers can then cash in at a raised value.

Email Scanning specialists Asometric predict that spam levels will continue to increase throughout the coming months aswell as ongoing change of tactics.

Statistics for this study were based on figures of over 13 million emails scanned in the month of July. Conversely, Virus and bad content email traffic now merely accounts for below 1% in this monthly average.

Scanning Reports globally are reporting a new batch of Valentine’s Day spam emails in abundance today.

Valentine’s Day SPAM Mails include – “Get your Valentine’s Gift bag from ghd” containing an image of a designer handbag encouraging you to click on it.
Another SPAM Mail – “Make Valentine’s Day Night a memorable one”, this contains a link to another website advertising for a herbal formula called VPXL.

Nowadays spammers eagerly link spam attacks to significant holidays and events in an attempt to catch out and target eager celebrators.

Stats on our Scanning Servers show huge increase in subjects relating to Valentine’s Day Celebrations today being quarantined. On average stopping up to 90% of all such spam mails.

Celebrate this Valentine’s carefully and don’t be fooled by bogus spam emails wishing you well.
